Yokohama

Minato Mirai 21 in Yokohama
Yokohama is a second biggest city of Japan. It is located in Kanagawa prefecture, on the southwest end of Tokyo Bay. It takes about half an hour from Tokyo by train.
Yokohama is most biggest and famous harbour city of Japan. Most surface cargo in Greater Tokyo Area goes through Yokohama harbour. Even timber is still moved through the port of Yokohama.
Yokohama was the city where Matthew Perry arrived with his black boats, to force Japan to open up it's trade routes. The city has annual memorial day for this event.
People are busy here like in any populated city, and trains are crowded in rush hour.
But there is something different. Yokohama is a city with a different pace than Tokyo. At least our governor tries to do something to preserve environment. In Yokohama the garbage separation is strictest in Japan. Thus, streets here are mostly clean. Air in Yokohama is fresh. Perhaps because the sea is so close here.
Perhaps most famous attraction in Yokohama is Minato Mirai 21, an amusement area near the Yokohama Bay bridge where the Landmark Tower, one of the tallest buildings in Japan stands. Minato Mirai is famous place for shopping and eating. Yamashita Park is another famous spot, as well as Bay Quarters restaurant complex near Yokohama. Yokohama China Town is also famous sight seeing spot in Yokohama.
