Tsuyu

Ajisai hydrangea in Japan
Ajisai, Japanese hydrangea blooms during rainy season in Japan.

Tsuyu, the rainy season in Japan lasts usually from end of May to end of June or beginning of July, after which summer comes in Japan.

During tsuyu the air in Japan becomes very humid and wet. The air humidity can become so high that it is impossible to dry clothes outside.

Although it is not as hot as in July, the humidity combined with the increased temperature makes this season reminds tropical weather.

The rainy season also can cause serious mold problems if the rooms and futon and tatami are not aired or dried properly.

Japanese novels describe tsuyu in dark and sometimes erotic undertones.

The color of tsuyu is said to be blue in Japanese traditional fashion.
