Tokyo Metro

Tokyo Metro Co., Ltd is one of the two metro lines in Tokyo area. Another one is Toei line. Tokyo Metro runs mostly underground in Tokyo area but comes to surface on more distant locations.

Tokyo Metro's lines are clearly marked by colour coded alphabets which are defined from the line's first letter. For example, Ginza line is marged with orange G. And Hibiya line is H. Hanzomon line is Z and Fukutoshin Line is Y.

Tokyo Metro uses similar kind of cars as the JR line trains, but the trains generally take longer time to come to a full halt, and seem to run slower speeds.

In 1995 Tokyo Metro was hit by domestic terrorism by members of Aum Shirikyo cult. The perpretrators released sarin gas on several lines of Tokyo Metro, such as Marunouchi Line and Chiyoda Line. The security has been tightened in the Tokyo Metro since then and there are several patrols of Tokyo Metro personnel who are trained to prevent such incident occurring.

Buying a ticket to Tokyo Metro is a similar procedure as JR lines, you must go to ticket machine and select the fare and put the coins in. Then you get the ticket which you can adjust later if you inserted wrong number of money. Tokyo Metro also supports IC cards Suica and PASMO.

H - Hibiya Line Tokyu Toyoko Line (Naka-meguro to Kikuna) & Tobu Isesaki Line (Kita-senju to Tobu-dobutsu-koen)
T - Tozai Line JR East Chuo-Sobu Line (Nakano to Mitaka) & JR East Sobu Line (Nishi-funabashi to Tsudanuma) & Toyo Rapid Line (Nishi-funabashi to Toyo Katsutadai)
C - Chiyoda Line Odakyu Odawara Line and Odakyu Tama Line (Yoyogi-uehara to Karakida and Hon-atsugi) & JR East Joban Line (Ayase to Toride)
Y - Yurakucho Line Tobu Tojo Main Line (Wakoshi to Shinrin-koen & Seibu Yurakucho Line and Seibu Ikebukuro Line (Kotake-mukaibara to Hannou)
Z - Hanzomon Line Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line (Shibuya to Chuo-rinkan) & Tobu Isesaki Line and Tobu Nikko Line (Oshiage to Minami-kurihasi or Kuki)
N - Namboku Line Tokyu Meguro Line (Meguro to Musashi-kosugi) & Saitama Rapid Railway Line (Akabane-iwabuchi to Urawa-misono)
Y - Fukutoshin Line Tobu and Seibu line (same tracks as Yurakucho Line) & Tokyu Toyoko Line (from Shibuya, planned)
