Shonan

Shonan Beach at sunset
Shonan is one of the most famous beaches in Kanagawa area. The beach is facing Sagama bay, and is close to Kamakura.
It is very popular place for surfers and beach lovers. An access to Enoshima island which hosts one of the biggest zoo's in Japan makes this place also popular.
Among surfers, Shonan is called "Surfer's paradise". The beautiful sand is kept clean by volunteer workers who gather the driftwood and make bonfires from it.
Perhaps the easiest way to access Shonan is to change train in Yokohama station. Take JR Tokaido line towards Ofuna and get off in Fujizawa. There you can change into Enoden (Enoshima Electric Railway), a beautiful Showa style train with a long history.
Even the train trip alone is worth of experiencing.
We recommend getting off at Shichirigahama Station. The station provides easy access to the beach.
