Shochu

ShochuShochu is the strong distilled Japanese liquor, that is sometimes made of sweet potato or rice, or barley. Shochu is very popular drink in Japan and it used to be very popular among young women, who often prefer it on the rocks. Shochu has often percentage of 20-25% or more while sake has usually ten percentage less.

There are officially two shochu classifications, koshu shochu is distilled more than one time, and the result is very clear. Otsushu shochu is distilled only once so there is taste of original ingredients.

Shochu shouldn't be compared to western strong liquors like vodka as the taste is completely different. Shochu makes great base for coctails as well , for example for lemon coctails or others.
