Nanzen-ji
Nanzen-ji, also known as Zuiryusan Nanzen-ji or earlier Zenrin-ji is one of the famous buddhist temples in Kyoto. Ancient aqueduct flows through Nanzenji, and the water in it is originated from lake Biwa.
Nanzen-ji temple has deep roots in zen buddhism. Nanzen-ji is a head temple of Rinzai Buddhists, which are one of the most famous group practising zen buddhism. The surrounding serene nature and mountainside location has a very quiet and calm atmosphere.
The temple's large entrance gate is called Sanmon and is originated from 1628.
Cool fresh breeze is flowing in Nanzen-ji. It doesn't get so hot even in July.
To get to Nanzenji, perhaps easiest way is to take bus number five. It leaves from Kyoto Station. You can also use subway Tozai Line and get off at Keage Station. The temple is very near there.
You can also take "The Walk of Philosophy" (Tetsugaku no michi) which connects Ginkakuji "Silver pavilion" to Nanzenji. It is very comfortable path to walk and great place to watch cherry blossoms.
