Highlights from the Mikado

Highlights of the MikadoThis is a really fascinating; and very old sountrack from the Mikado Opera. It's part of the collection of different CD's, such as "Chinese bamboo flute music" and "Japanese Koto", which both have been reviewed here. Other parts of the collection are "Indian meditation" and "Gregorian spirit".

Highlights of Mikado contains up to 22 tracks and most of them are pretty well made. At least what comes to contents; as the back of the CD container briefs: "Due to age of these recordings, limitations in the original recording may be highlighted". And that's what it really does, when I was listening this with my headphones for the first time, I thought that my stereo amplifier was broken, because the sound quality is.. grhhmm.. something really awful.

But the contents are the most important. And this is really fascinating opera music. I haven't seen the opera itself but I'm trying to find it as a movie version. If there is such version.. However, this CD works as an individual piece of art and listener can easily follow the plot and understand what it is all about.
