Ikebana is the traditional Japanese flower arrangement. It is also known as kado, the "way of flowers".
Ikebana flower arrangement is all about creating harmony of triangular linear construction. There are often three points that are somehow connected to each other to create the harmony and movement.
It could be said that line in sado, in ikebana, the practitioner seeks inner harmony and connection to nature, and perhaps to the spiritual existence. The three main points of ikebana are heaven, earth and humankind.
Ikebana has roots to sixth century Japan and has inspiration from Zen and Buddhism. Along with sado and calligraphy Ikebana used to be thing that every Japanese woman should know, and was part of training of a geisha.
Nowadays ikebana is popular art form especially among women in Japan. Some kimono schools in Japan teach ikebana as one subject.
