Hehe, yes that type of video they made is somehow so Japanese.

She is actually a pianist and a songwriter. She came popular of her hit Sakuranbo 2003/2004 which was so amazing hit. Everyone knows Sakuranbo. It was in ringtones  and commercials right away. And young peole went crazy about her

Ai Otsuka belongs to Avex Trax record label  , which coincidentally is the same where Ayumi Hamasaki and other big artists belongs. Her latest CD "Frienger" was published in April.

I hope she will continue to use her skills as a pianist and songwriter more in the future.

Yup, everything you said about Ai is correct. ^^ She began playing the Piano at the age of four I believe.

Did you know that she is plannin' on becoming a Kindergarden teacher if her singing career collapses?  Smiley

I love Ai-chan, too. She was born in Osaka and speaks fluent Kansai dialect when she is not singing. It sounds somewhat strange to us Kanto people because there is a specific difference of images between her song and what she speaks, but I guess it makes her even more fascinating!

My favourite artists are for example Maaya Sakamoto, Utada Hikaru, Yuna Ito and Angela Aki.
I especially like Angela Aki, she writes her own music and her songs are nice Smiley
She is japanese/italian american but she speaks fluent japanese.

I don't have much experience with Otsuka Ai, but I arrived to Tokyo a week after her album Love Cook, the one with the song "Planetarium" on it, came out. I didn't leave Japan with her CD (a pile of DVD's and a new computer kind of tapped me out), but it did haunt me. I found the video from Youtube, and I managed to repeat the melody with my flute. HappyHappyJoyJoy!  Grin
Of course I stink with it but it feels good to play it through anyway. It's very catchy and seems complex but still very easy melody. I love it!

Most of the time I find her voice a bit annoying as it goes a bit too high. That with the overly cheefulness makes it a bit too much for me. I think her voice sounds more pleasant on slow songs like Kingyo hanabi (the only slow song by her I've heard).

I would also like to point out that there already is a "Favourite Artist"-thread.
