Akihabara
Tokyo's Akihabara is the famous hangout for those wanting to buy reasonable home electronics, and otaku. Akihabara Electric Town introduces a broad variety of shops selling hi-fi audio, cellphones, digital cameras, digital video cameras, PC computers, laptops, transistor radios, home appliances..
If you are looking for cheapest price, you should definably look here. Competition is heavy and
prices are pretty decent. Customer service is as good like elsewhere in shops in Japan. Some famous brands such as Apple might be hard to find here, for example Apple iPods are
almost constantly sold out.
For
example OYAIDE shop sells all kinds of wiring materials, SENGOKU DENSYOU sells
transistors and diodes. Also there are shops selling junk materials. You may get
the part you need from here real cheap. The most famous buildings in Akihabara Electric Town are Akizuki Denshi Tsusho Ltd.
Laox Computer Shop, OYAIDE electric, SENGOGU electric, OZAWA Electric firm, SUZUSYOU and
SAKAGUCHI E. VOC CORP.
In addition Akihabara is known of it's youth culture, manga and anime shops, and especially the maido-kissa, which is a special coffeeshop where the waitress wears maid uniform, a kind of costume play.
You can most easily access Akihabara Electric Town by taking Yamanote-line from Ueno station. You may also take a walk from Ueno.
Keep in mind though that the voltage required by most Japanese appliances is 110V.
In Europe and Australia the voltage is 230V. You might need a power converter.

Next to Akihabara is Kanda in JR Yamanote line.
